Very Important Entrant Updates
RUN MONTECITO is a low-key, “Run Hard – Hard Fun” road running event, hosted on an awesome route, stocked with an ample amount of fluid stations and crew. The Start and finish is a low-key affair, hosted at the family-owned and operated Café Luna, located in the heart of Summerland. We do not host a sponsor expo, amplified music or any prize raffle…in time, as the event grows, we hope to provide such luxuries.
ENTRANTS CHECK-IN Complete your entrant-check in as early as possible; we have a very limited window of time Saturday morning to complete the entry check-in. If you cannot complete the entrant check-in on Thursday or Friday and have to wait until Saturday morning, we request you do your very best arrive at Café Luna no later than 6am Saturday morning. There will be only one station open to complete the entrant check-in Saturday morning. We have a lot of entrants coming up from SoCal this year; the line will be long and move slowly.
PARKING Please be prepared and allow ample time to locate parking (10-15 minutes), then get to Café Luna. The later you arrive, the further away you will need to walk/ run to get to the Start/Finish line at Café Luna. Late arrivers (after 6:30am) should expect to park as far away as 1.5 miles.
CLOTHING DROP – We do not host a clothing drop and return. Weather reports are calling for early AM coastal marine layer; foothills will be clear skies and warm. You should not worry about needing to start with a base layer, as you will be warmed up within the first quarter mile (see course profile if you don’t believe me).
HYDRATION If you’re entered in the Half Marathon and are a slow runner and expect to use the clock to finish (4 hours), then I suggest you use at least one handheld fluid container or a backpack style hydration bladder……there are plenty of long gradual climbs in the first half of the course. If you’re one of the medium-fast runners (2-3 hours), please consume at least two cups of fluid as you pass each fluid station. If you’re one of those super-fast, sub- two-hour runners, there’s not much I can say that will alter your race plan, please start hydrated and stay hydrated!
PORTABLE BATHROOMS. Please note, we will have 8 restrooms at the Start/Finish corral. We also have four locations (mile 2.9, mile 6, mile 8.8, and mile 11.3) on the course where we will have one portable restroom…this does mean that you might have to wait a minute or two.
HEADPHONES Run Montecito route(s) is comprised of cone corridors along the right hand shoulder of the road and open road sections where you’re running near vehicular traffic. Depending on which division your entered in, you could expect to transition through as many as 12 four way intersections, most staffed with traffic/ entrant control flagmen and or California Highway Patrol, it’s crucial for the your safety, the safety of the entrants near you and the general public that Run Montecito entrants be able to hear ALL verbal instructions as you approach or proceed through these route sections. If you must run with headphones, we strongly encourage you to use only one earbud and leave the volume on low.
ENTRANT PHOTOS. We will have one photographer stationed at the start/ finish, one located near mile 5.1 and another located near mile 6.2. Link will be posted on Run Montecito site on Monday. Rates for photos TBD.
FINISHER MEDALLIONS. Only the following entrants will receive a finisher medallion upon crossing the finish line:
• If you entered through the “All-Inclusive” entry fee rate plan
• If you purchased your entry using the Base Rate, LivingSocial or Amazon option and PAID the additional fee of $15.00 for the Finisher Medallion.
POST-RUN festivities. This is a low-key affair –we will have some freshly cut fruits, snacks and beverages…..including beer. If you require a more substantial meal after your run, Café Luna is just the place.
